How to cook Boerewors
Boerewors, a traditional South African sausage, can be cooked in several ways to bring out its rich and flavourful taste. Here are different methods to cook Boerewors, followed by a recipe for a delicious tomato and onion gravy to accompany it.
Grilling (Bar-Braai-Queuing) Boerewors
Instructions:
Preheat your grill to a medium-high heat. Place the boerewors on the grill. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until it is browned on all sides and cooked through. Check for Doneness: The internal temperature should reach at least 160°F (70°C).
Rest the Boerewors: Let the boerewors rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
Pan Frying Boerewors
Instructions:
Preheat the Pan: Heat a large frying pan over medium heat. Add a small amount of oil to the pan to prevent sticking. Place the boerewors coil in the pan and cook for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through. Check for Doneness: Ensure the internal temperature reaches at least 160°F (70°C).
Rest the Boerewors: Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving.
Air Frying Boerewors
Instructions:
Preheat the Air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes. Place the boerewors coil in the air fryer basket. Ensure it is not overcrowded and there is enough space for air to circulate around the sausage. Cook for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through. If your air fryer has a basket, shake it gently at the halfway mark. Check for Doneness: The internal temperature should reach at least 160°F (70°C).
Rest the Boerewors: Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
