A light and refreshing accompaniment to pork steaks or chops, this Apple Cream offers a nice no-cook alternative to the usual heavy and rich sauces.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or gluten free option)

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • Pinch of dry oregano

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1 1/2 cups milk (or light cream)

  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (mild or mature)

Directions

  • Gather ingredients
  • Remove from heat -stir in the flour, salt, dry oregano and pepper
  • Put the saucepan back on the heat and cook, stirring, for 1 minute
  • Gradually add milk or light cream whilst stirring until well mixed
  • Continue cooking, stirring constantly until thickened and smooth
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring, for 5 minutes
  • Add the cheese and cook, stirring, until the cheese has melted
  • Your sauce should be smooth and well blended
  • Serve
